Application Tips

Surface Preparation

The best way to ensure a strong bond is with proper surface preparation. Why?
No matter how robust your adhesive is, or how well-suited it is to your
application, dust, grease, or other debris on the bonding surfaces will interfere
with the adhesive’s ability to do its job. Adequate surface preparation ensures
the cleanest contact and ultimately the strongest bond.

  • Prepare the Surface

With clean hands, prepare the surface of your application with a non-ammonia based cleaner. We recommend a 50/50 blend of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and water. The alcohol will dissolve any light grease and water will get rid of dirt and accumulated dust.

(Do not use Windex, paint thinner or any other harsh chemicals as this will
    prevent the acrylic from bonding.)

  • Allow to Dry

Allow at least 60 seconds for surface to completely dry and the alcohol to flash off. The surface should be dry.

  • Prepped for Success

You have successfully prepped the surface for lifelong bonding. Apply and say goodbye!

TIP: When discussing adhesives, bond refers to the strength and durability of the connection between two surfaces, which involves both chemical and mechanical interactions. Stick, on the other hand, often describes the initial tack or how well the adhesive clings to a surface upon first contact. While 'stick' is about immediate adhesion, 'bond' is about the long-term hold. A good adhesive not only sticks quickly but also forms a strong bond over time, ensuring your trim stays securely in place.

  • Select a suitable storage location:

Find a clean, dry, and well-ventilated area for storing your PVC profiles. The storage area should be protected from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and moisture. Ideally, the temperature should be between 10°C and 30°C (50°F and 86°F).

  • Arrange profiles in a flat position:

PVC profiles should be stored horizontally or flat to prevent warping or deformation. Avoid stacking them vertically, as it can lead to bending or distortion over time.

  • Use suitable support:

If you need to stack multiple profiles, place appropriate support between each layer to prevent excessive pressure on the lower profiles. You can use wooden slats or similar materials to provide even support.

  • Protect profiles from dust and dirt:

Cover the stored profiles with a clean cloth or plastic sheet to keep them protected from dust, dirt, and other contaminants. This step is particularly crucial if the storage area is prone to dust accumulation.

  • Avoid exposure to direct sunlight:

Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause discoloration and deterioration of PVC profiles. Ensure that the storage area is shielded from direct sunlight to maintain the profiles' quality.

  • Prevent contact with solvents or chemicals:

PVC profiles can react to certain solvents or chemicals, leading to discoloration or degradation. Keep the storage area free from any substances that might cause harm to the profiles.

  • Inspect periodically:

Regularly check the stored PVC profiles for any signs of damage, such as cracks, warping, or changes in color. If you notice any issues, separate the damaged profiles to prevent further deterioration.

  • Coiled Trim:

We recommend removing all coiled trim from packaging and storing flat immediately upon receipt. Do so will prevent damage to product.

By following these instructions, you can ensure that your PVC profiles remain in good condition and ready for use when needed.
